2007

What is the Savannah Scottish Games experience? We've listed comments below submitted by people who attended the 2007 Games. See for yourself.

Also, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you ALL for the production of an OUTSTANDING EVENT there at Bethesda . It was absolutely a great day and a prosperous day for our clan with the signing of several new members and several membership renewals, plus a bit of clan merchandise sold.

Again, thank you all for what you have presented and accomplished. It was a great, great day. And please keep us in mind if we can be of any assistance to you for next year’s event.  --- C&B
We all had a great time... Lots of good work. Thank you again.  --- JF
This year was the first time I attended the Scottish games and had a great time. My 2 clans (Farquharson & Lesli) were not represented this year. I would like to know what we need to do to be represented during next year's games.  --- LH
Just wanted to tell you how we enjoyed your games. It was very organized. We had more people stop at our tent facing the black top than on the side of the games so next time I may set up a table going both directions. Even though we don’t live in the region, we will try to come back because it was such a wonderful games.  --- PC
Thank you for a wonderful Games! Whoever ordered the weather deserves a prize. My 8 yr old son grumbled about going ("Mom, I'm gonna be bored!") and then we had to peel him away when it was time to leave. I had the best time, and got many really good photos without too many oddballs standing in the way. The venue was incredible. I hope you can use it again next year. Honestly, I can't say enough about the whole event. Well Done!  --- MD
Absolutely wonderful! Had a great time this past Saturday, even better than last year. Thank you for all you do to put the Games on; the change to Bethesda makes it even more impressive, and you can count on me next year as well!  --- RS
We would like to thank you for all your hospitality and your kindnesses. We would like to come to the Games next year so keep us in mind.  ---  W.M.

I know very little about my heritage other than an ancestor migrated from Europe in the late 1800’s. While doing some research on the internet I discovered that there were over 2,100 with my last name listed in the 1841 Scottish census and that those of that name are a sept family to a Scottish Clan. I also learned about the Scottish Highland Games that were held annually around the world.

When I retired we vowed never to go knowingly into crowds again, mainly due to the drunks, kooks, and other weird persons that one could encounter. As a result, we simply do not attend events where crowds are expected. However, wanting to find out more about our possible heritage, my wife and I attended our first Highland games this past January in Winter Springs , Florida . We were pleasantly surprised about the homely, family atmosphere of the games and the fact that there were no drunks, kooks or other weird persons at the games—nothing but friendly and interesting people. Moreover, we met with clan representatives and as a result have joined a clan.

The second event we attended was the Jacksonville Scottish Highland Games which, it turned out, was being held at the Clay County Fairgrounds, near where we lived. We also discovered that we could become patrons, or sponsors, at the games. We also learned that being patrons/sponsors, allowed us to participate in more events than the game itself provided. Moreover, we continued to notice and enjoy the family atmosphere at these games.

Our third game was the Dunedin Highland Games in Dunedin , Florida . While it did not offer patron sponsorships, it too provided a wholesome family atmosphere that made attendance a pleasure.

A friend mentioned that Savannah had its games scheduled in May. We were delighted to discover that Savannah offered a patron sponsorship. We were not disappointed. As usual, the games were held in a wholesome family atmosphere, free from inebriates and the like persons. I am sure that families everywhere would agree that the wholesome entertainment provided by the Scottish Highland Games are well worth supporting no matter where they are being held.  --- Don
